The Helping Hand Initiative

The Helping Hand Initiative consists of two primary components: Founders’ Month-of-Service and the Helping Hand Partners. The Founders’ Month-of-Service takes place each spring during the month of April, to coincide with Founder Quarles' birthday. It was established as a time for all Sigma Nu's to get involved in either their local communities or the global community at-large.

The Helping Hand Partners consist of: Character Counts, Habitat for Humanity, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Character Counts is the nation’s most widely adopted approach to character education.  Its broad framework for educators and youth service providers is built around nonpartisan, nonsectarian values called the Six Pillars Of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

HabitatHabitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a world wide, not for profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry.  Habitat For Humanity is dedicated to the elimination of homelessness and poverty housing from the world. Habitat was founded on the belief that all people deserve a decent and affordable place to live in dignity and safety.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is one of the worlds premier centers for research and treatment of catastrophic diseases in children, primarily pediatric cancers.  It was built upon the belief that “no child should die in the dawn of life” and that conviction still holds true today in the hearts of St. Jude employees.  The institution has a clear mission, unstoppable desire and an unquenchable passion to protect nurture the health of children everywhere.

Salvation Army
For the past few semesters the brothers of Sigma Nu have been dedicated to helping out around the community.  One place that we have spent a lot of time and effort is at the Dekalb Salvation Army.  Brothers have helped out at a food pantry, and donated countless hours helping make the community a better place.
